A Bill introduced in Congress threatens organic farmers, local farmers, small (non-corporate) farms, and your ability to grow your own food.
House Bill HR 875 and Senate Bill S 425 are currently in committee and provide broad sweeping power to the new federal agency - the Food Safety Administration. HR 875, was introduced by Rosa DeLauro whose husband Stanley Greenburg works for Monsanto and is supported by Monsanto, Cargill, ADM and several other agri-giants. This bill will require organic farms to use specific fertilizers and poisonous insect sprays dictated by a newly formed agency to “make sure there is no danger to the public food supply”. This will include backyard gardens that grow food only for a family and not for sales.
